  • My WP Credits Final Report

    Introduction

    Hello! My name is Juan Pablo Martínez Gamboa, and this is my final report for the WP Credits program.

    Throughout the program, I contributed to the WordPress Photo Directory by submitting original photographs for review while learning how the WordPress open-source community works. This report summarizes my work, the challenges I faced, and the knowledge I gained during the program.

    Team and Project

    I chose to contribute to the WordPress Photo Directory because it combines two of my interests: technology and photography.

    My project focused on creating and submitting original photographs that meet the quality and licensing requirements of the WordPress Photo Directory. My goal was to contribute useful images that can be freely used by the WordPress community while improving my own photography skills.

    To complete my project, I used several learning resources provided by the WP Credits program, including:

    Challenges and Solutions

    One of my biggest challenges was understanding the quality standards required for the WordPress Photo Directory.

    I learned that a good photograph is not only about the subject but also about focus, lighting, composition, copyright requirements, and technical quality. By reviewing my photographs carefully before submitting them, I gradually improved my work.

    Another challenge was balancing the WP Credits program with my university coursework. I managed this by dedicating specific time each week to complete lessons and prepare photographs for submission.

    Key Learnings

    The WP Credits program taught me that contributing to open source is much more than writing code.

    I learned the importance of collaboration, following community guidelines, accepting feedback, and continuously improving my work. I also gained a much better understanding of how the global WordPress community works.

    Personal Reflection

    I was also surprised by how welcoming and organized the WordPress community is.

    Although the WP Credits program is complete, I plan to continue contributing photographs to the WordPress Photo Directory whenever I have the opportunity.

  • Reflection: Halfway Check-In

    Reaching the halfway point of the WP Credits program has given me the opportunity to reflect on my progress and everything I have learned so far.

    Since choosing the WordPress Photo Directory as my contribution project, I have submitted multiple original photographs for review and continued improving my understanding of the Photo Directory quality standards. I have also completed the onboarding lessons, created my personal WordPress website, and published regular progress updates throughout the program.

    One of the biggest challenges has been learning what makes a photograph suitable for the Photo Directory. I had to pay close attention to composition, lighting, focus, copyright requirements, and image quality. Reviewing feedback and carefully selecting my best photographs helped me improve with each submission.

    Another challenge was balancing the WP Credits activities with my university coursework. Planning dedicated time each week allowed me to stay on track and continue making progress.

    Looking ahead, my goal is to continue contributing high-quality photographs, complete the remaining reflections, and finish the program with a better understanding of how open-source communities collaborate. I also hope to remain an active member of the WordPress community after the program ends.

  • Reflection: Your First Contribution

    During my first contributions to the WordPress Photo Directory, I realized that submitting a photograph involves much more than simply uploading an image. I had to pay attention to composition, focus, lighting, and the Photo Directory guidelines to ensure each submission met the required quality standards.

    Receiving feedback and reviewing my own work helped me improve both my photography skills and my understanding of how contributions are evaluated in an open-source project.

    As I continued contributing, I successfully published multiple photographs in the WordPress Photo Directory. This experience motivated me to keep improving the quality of my work and contribute more to the WordPress community.

  • Reflection: Choosing Your Team and Project

    Choosing my contribution team was one of the most important decisions in the WP Credits program.

    After exploring the different contribution opportunities, I decided to join the WordPress Photo Directory. Photography has always been one of my interests, and this project gave me the opportunity to combine it with technology while contributing to the WordPress community.

    My contribution project focuses on submitting original, high-quality photographs that meet the Photo Directory guidelines. Through this work, I have learned to pay closer attention to composition, lighting, focus, and image quality before submitting each photograph for review.

    By the end of the WP Credits program, I hope to continue expanding my contributions to the Photo Directory, improve my photography skills, and gain a deeper understanding of how contributors collaborate within one of the world’s largest open-source communities.

  • Reflection: Building Your Personal Website

    Creating my personal website was one of the most interesting parts of the WP Credits program.

    I decided to use the free hosting provided through WordPress.com because it made the setup process simple and allowed me to focus on learning WordPress instead of worrying about server configuration. It was a great way to start building my first contribution website.

    One of the biggest challenges was understanding the difference between pages, posts, categories, and the Site Editor. At first, I was unsure how to organize my content and customize the theme. After exploring the editor and practicing with different blocks, everything became much clearer.

    This experience gave me a better understanding of how WordPress works and increased my confidence in building and managing my own website. It also prepared me to continue contributing to the WordPress community through the WP Credits program.

  • Why I Chose the WordPress Photo Directory

    One of the first decisions in the WPCredits program was selecting a contribution area. After exploring the available options, I decided to contribute to the WordPress Photo Directory.

    I chose this area because it combines two of my interests: technology and photography. It allows me to contribute original photographs that can be freely used by the WordPress community while learning the quality standards required for publication.

    This contribution also gives me the opportunity to improve my photography skills by paying attention to composition, lighting, and image quality. At the same time, I will gain experience working within an open-source project and following a professional review process.

    I am looking forward to seeing my photographs accepted and becoming part of the official WordPress Photo Directory.

  • What I Learned During the WPCredits Onboarding

    Before making my first contribution, I completed the onboarding section of the WPCredits course. This stage helped me understand how the WordPress project is organized and why open-source collaboration depends on teamwork, communication, and shared guidelines.

    I also learned the difference between WordPress.org and WordPress.com, how contributors collaborate through the global community, and the importance of following community standards when participating in an open-source project.

    The onboarding process gave me a better understanding of the responsibilities of a contributor and prepared me to begin working on my selected contribution area with confidence. It also showed me that contributing to WordPress is not only about technical skills but also about collaboration and continuous learning.

  • Beginning My WPCredits Experience

    I started the WPCredits program as part of my Systems Engineering studies at Universidad Fidélitas. I see this project as an opportunity to learn how open-source communities work while making real contributions to WordPress.

    For my contribution area, I selected the WordPress Photo Directory. I enjoy photography, and this project allows me to combine that interest with technology by sharing original images that can be freely used by people around the world.

    Throughout this journal, I will document my progress, the challenges I encounter, and the lessons I learn. My goal is not only to complete the program successfully but also to gain valuable experience contributing to one of the world’s largest open-source communities.
